Chasing the Blues Away

Yes, it is often needed, to chase the blues away. “Blues, you are trespassing. Scram, get out of here. Go away!”

What are the blues? You’ve felt them. That feeling when nothing is right and you feel life draining out of you. That sinking feeling that you just can’t seem to climb out of. The blues are the antagonist of joy. The blues will usually attempt to rob any demonstration of joy, thus create unhappiness.

The countless songwriters croon out about the invasion of the blues and the need to chase the blues away. There is a universal need to chase the thieves out who are trying to steal your joy.

As of late I’ve been required to do this often, daily, repeatedly during the day at times. I’m not writing here to whine about the circumstances of that, but it has made me think about, the blues. The dirty low down blues.

Since it appears that the blues are the invader, then it makes sense that the opposite, joy, must be the rightful possessor or resident of the land, that is, my heart.

Do you know that you, and I, are often the unwilling subjects of trespassers in our hearts? Our hearts are the starting blocks of our dreams. Dreams open us to adventure and life. The beginning of all territory we are destined to take in life begin in the heart. My heart was created to be carefree, overflowing with joy, an expression of my Father’s love and acceptance. Even though this joy is gifted freely as inheritance, not earned or worked for, there appears to be much work in keeping it joyful. It’s kind of like the saying freedom isn’t free.

The problem is this, there is one whose job description is the robber of our joy. Of all the things I’ve possessed, I wouldn’t naturally turn my attention to protect my joy. Who would want to steal that? And why? Yet this is one of the main descriptors of our insidious opponent’s tasks. To steal my joy.

Makes me wonder. If it is that important for him to rob my joy, then what amazing value joy must have.

Now that sounds like a worthy subject to search out. Joy.

Perhaps if we can discover the value(s) of joy, then we can more powerfully understand the need to protect it and then purpose to chase away those who would try to replace joy with the blues.

It’s worth mentioning that joy is not the same as happiness. He is not the robber of my happiness. It seems that happiness is more a reaction to situations. Joy on the other hand appears to be a deep-seated gift, even a determination of my will.

Joy. Joy! JOY!!!

Yes, joy must have some amazing properties. When I reflect on joy, I immediately think of these byproducts from hosting it:

Health and healing
Happiness
Hope
Energy
Productivity
Contagious to others
Encouragement
Attraction
Solutions

I bet you could add many more effects that joy has on you and all around you.

Let’s search out together the benefits of joy. It’s a prescription we can all use. It’s something we should be spreading around like a virus. Let’s use it to chase away the blues. We don’t need more blues, we definitely need more joy.

There is a God in heaven, I call Him Papa. His love letter to us says we are His pride and joy. No matter our state, He’s madly in love with us. There is an affect from that. The bible says it this way:

“The joy of the Lord is our strength.”

Let that put a smile on your face and tell the blues to beat it.

~~~~ Smile~~~~
